Too often people complain about things they could change, but only if they were bothered to see it!
If you complain about something, it means you know that there’s something better available than what’s happening. If you were to focus on doing something to bring about the “something better” than your outcome can only be better!
People often complain that they don’t have enough time, enough money, enough friends etc. Some people find their identity in complaining and that becomes who they are and what they represent. If they were to get up an hour earlier, get a second job or find a second income, and join a club to meet friends – what would they talk about and who would they be??
A great quote I heard with years ago and try to remember it is “If who I am is what I have, and what I have is lost, then who am I?”
The same goes for people who complain about things – it becomes who they are. And if the things they complained about was solved, then who are they?
When people say they don’t have time, or don’t have the money etc. it can also be that they haven’t made this thing important enough. So if you’re complaining about not having the time to go cycling – you do have time, you just haven’t made is as important as watching TV, catching up with friends or going shopping. You could get up an hour earlier – you now have the time – you just have to make it more important than sleep!
So I think as we start the new year, for me anyway, I’m going to stop complaining about not being as fit as I was, not singing as much as I want to, not practicing guitar enough and not having enough money – I’m going to do something about it and make these things important and stop making excuses for it! I’m going to walk the walk instead of talking the talk – complaining in other words 🙂
What do you find yourself complaining about about your life at the moment? What are you willing to give up to make some positive difference to these things? What are you willing to do to stop complaining?
