Reading about pessimism and optimism and the differences between the two.
One statement I really liked was how pessimists make everything a general statement whereas optimists make specific statements.
For example: “I can’t believe I messed up that job interview, I’m terrible at interviews” – takes away your power to do anything about the situation.
Instead the optimist might say: “I could’ve used more open body language when describing my previous role. I’ll practice that before future interviews.”
Same event, 2 different responses, and I would almost guarantee 2 different outcomes!
So instead of making general statements that limit your possibilities, instead try to make your statements specific about your performance and of those around you. It opens up possibilities instead of limiting your options.
